For many years Matt was a director at L – P : Archaeology. He joined soon after it was created and was responsible for the growth of the fieldwork department, as well as other duties such as financial management, quality control and compliance. He recently worked for Wessex Archaeology where he managed fieldwork operations at the Wylfa Nuclear Power site for over two years. Matt currently works part-time as Reserves Archaeologist for the RSPB covering England and Wales. This involves collating data, working with volunteers and providing advice and input for various projects including ecology schemes, land management and land acquisitions.
For ten years Matt was one of the permanent field archaeologists on Channel Four’s flagship archaeology programme ‘Time Team’ and appeared in over 120 programmes, including live programmes and documentaries. He also co-presented two series of BBC Four’s ‘Digging for Britain’.
Matt is particularly interested in communication, training methods and making heritage accessible. He has learned a great deal from his varied experience in project management, heritage management and television. He wants to use this knowledge to inform and inspire.
