Fearn Heritage and Archaeology believe that a sound understanding of the past is important in order to set future change in a long term context. We believe that heritage is a real enabler and an essential consideration when developing nature restoration proposals.
We have extensive experience in large scale, strategic, historic environment assessments including both impact and opportunity assessments. We have been involved with the development of a set of Heritage Impact and Opportunity Scoping Assessment (HIOSA) principles, working closely with the National Trust to develop a detailed brief and subsequently piloting their development. This approach clearly identifies the opportunities for people and nature afforded by the historic environment along with an archaeological understanding of the landscape that helps connect past, present and future. We have refined our own methodology for the process and developed a GIS project and reporting format that is clear, comprehensive, and can be easily integrated into any project, recognising the need for flexibility - as each landscape is very distinctive.
We strongly believe that taking a positive and proactive approach to heritage can help lead to the creation of well managed resilient landscapes.
